Role summary 
 

We're looking for an experienced Executive Manager to lead our Retail Data Engineering practice in Sydney. This role offers the opportunity to shape Quantium's data engineering capabilities across our largest vertical, overseeing a portfolio generating $40-50m in annual revenue. You'll lead three squads across multiple geographies, working alongside product teams to deliver enterprise-grade data solutions for major retail clients. This is a strategic leadership position where you'll develop high-performing teams, establish engineering best practices, and drive innovation in cloud architecture and data platforms. You'll play a key role in growing our consulting practice while collaborating with senior stakeholders to shape our technical roadmap.


How will you make an impact?
 

  • Lead and develop our Retail Data Engineering practice, setting strategic direction and technical standards across three squads
  • Build and maintain high-performing engineering teams through effective talent development, mentorship, and retention strategies
  • Oversee the design and implementation of scalable data platforms that power analytics and AI solutions for global retail clients
  • Partner with product teams and commercial stakeholders to deliver complex data transformation projects that drive customer value
  • Establish and champion engineering best practices in cloud architecture, data pipelines, and distributed systems
  • Foster collaboration across data engineering, data science, analytics, and software engineering teams
  • Drive commercial outcomes through effective stakeholder management and delivery excellence across a significant revenue portfolio
  • Lead strategic initiatives to evolve our technical capabilities and expand our service offerings in the retail sector

 
The superpowers you will bring to the team: 

 

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, software development, or related technical fields with a proven track record of delivery
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing large engineering teams, with a focus on building capability and fostering growth
  • Deep technical knowledge of data engineering, distributed systems, and modern cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Experience managing multiple teams across different geographies, creating cohesive collaboration and shared goals
  • Strong understanding of retail industry data challenges and opportunities (highly valued)
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Commercial acumen and experience managing significant portfolios or revenue streams
  • Track record of driving technical innovation and implementing modern data architecture patterns
  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
