Role summary
Are you passionate about building and operating infrastructure that is stable, secure, and engineered with discipline? As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, operating, and evolving Quantium’s core infrastructure platforms across on-prem and cloud environments.
This is a hands-on, senior individual contributor role within Technology. You will work across project delivery and operational ownership, running key infrastructure services while helping modernise how the platform is designed, governed, and improved. You’ll operate within structured change and peer-review frameworks, and be comfortable working with Git-based processes and automation practices that support safe, well-managed change.
You will partner closely with security, networking, database, and project teams to deliver reliable infrastructure that supports both day-to-day operations and future growth.
This is not a pure DevOps or cloud-native engineering role, and it is not a junior operations position. It suits someone who is confident operating across complex enterprise environments, comfortable explaining technical decisions, and pragmatic about balancing stability, risk, and improvement.
This role plays a key part in maintaining the reliability of Quantium’s core systems while enabling thoughtful modernisation across virtualisation, identity, cloud, and end-user compute.
How will you make an impact?
- Own core infrastructure services: Take end-to-end ownership of key platforms including identity management, messaging, virtualisation, storage, and data protection.
- Balance projects and operations: Deliver infrastructure projects while also contributing to BAU operations, including participation in an on-call roster.
- Modernise infrastructure: Help evolve the environment through automation, CI/CD practices, and improved tooling to reduce manual effort and operational risk.
- Design pragmatic solutions: Interpret business and technical requirements and design solutions that leverage existing platforms while introducing change where it adds value.
- Support platform evolution: Contribute to major initiatives such as virtualisation changes, micro-segmentation, and cloud-hosted VDI capability.
- Partner across teams: Work closely with security, networking, DBAs, and project managers to deliver outcomes across shared platforms.
- Improve reliability and resilience: Strengthen disaster recovery, data protection, and platform stability through thoughtful design and continuous improvement.
- Influence through expertise: Provide technical guidance and mentorship within the team, raising standards through example rather than hierarchy.
The superpowers you will bring to the team
- Proven experience as a senior infrastructure engineer working across complex enterprise environments.
- Strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft technologies including Active Directory and Exchange.
- Solid experience with virtualisation, storage platforms, and data protection and recovery.
- Experience operating in hybrid environments, with strong Azure knowledge and exposure to AWS as a bonus.
- Comfortable working across on-prem and cloud infrastructure, understanding where each fits best.
- Experience automating infrastructure and improving delivery maturity through scripting, tooling, or CI/CD practices.
- Ability to work autonomously, make sound technical decisions, and explain trade-offs clearly to stakeholders.
- Confident communicator who can collaborate across multiple technical and non-technical teams.
- Comfortable participating in an on-call rotation and supporting critical systems when required.
- Experience in MSP or multi-environment roles is highly regarded.
