Since 2002, we have grown into an international team of over 1,200 AI and data specialists across 14 locations, delivering cutting-edge AI solutions and advanced analytics. Through strategic partnerships with leading corporations, Quantium drives innovation and helps organizations transform their operations through intelligent data-driven insights.

Role summary

As an Engineering Lead at Quantium, you will lead an engineering squad — building software, making architectural decisions, and setting the technical standard for your team. You will also run your squad’s agile processes, keep work organised and on track, manage and develop your people, and ensure stakeholders have clear visibility of progress.

You will be responsible for the enhancement, maintenance, and support of solutions within your technology area. You will run your squad’s agile ceremonies, manage the backlog, coordinate across work streams, and communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs to product owners, business stakeholders, and executive leadership.

You will manage the performance, growth, and wellbeing of your direct reports, balancing what the business needs with individual development. You will work closely with engineers in other technology areas to define technical direction, and partner with support teams to ensure smooth operation of services.

This role requires someone who is technically strong, reliable, well-organised and effective at building trust with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

How will you make an impact?

Technical

  • Lead the technical direction for your squad’s deliverables, ensuring alignment with broader engineering strategy and architectural principles
  • Design solutions that respect best practices, present reusable APIs where possible, and minimise system dependencies
  • Review code and test cases produced by team members to ensure changes satisfy business requirements and follow best practices
  • Collaborate with other lead and senior engineers to produce high-level designs for larger pieces of work
  • Ensure critical paths through code are covered by appropriate tests and data updates complete within SLA
  • Troubleshoot production problems and proactively monitor system health, acting to report and resolve issues
  • Champion automation across all aspects of software delivery, including automated deployments, testing, monitoring, and operational processes

Squad leadership and agile

  • Run the squad’s agile ceremonies — standups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives — ensuring they’re effective, time-boxed, and genuinely useful
  • Keep the backlog well-groomed with clearly defined, estimated tickets that are ready to be pulled into sprints
  • Set clear sprint goals and maintain realistic capacity plans so the team knows what they’re building and why
  • Coordinate dependencies with other squads and external teams, ensuring work is sequenced sensibly and blockers are dealt with quickly
  • Facilitate scope and priority conversations with product owners, making trade-offs visible and keeping commitments honest
  • Communicate progress, risks, and blockers to product and executive stakeholders clearly and early — no surprises
  • Contribute to estimation and planning, applying sensible buffers and being upfront about uncertainty

The superpowers you will bring to the team:

  • 5+ years’ experience developing applications and core services
  • Demonstrated experience in people leadership, including line management responsibilities
  • Solid foundation in backend engineering with strong experience in languages such as C#, .NET Core, Python, Java, or similar
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and data structures
  • Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, Azure, AWS)
  • Experience with microservices architectures and distributed systems
  • Strong working knowledge of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and practical experience running ceremonies and managing a backlog
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership
  • Experience coordinating engineering work across multiple concurrent work streams
  • Demonstrated commitment to leveraging AI tools in daily engineering practice, including tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI-assisted development platforms
  • Experience working with source control tools (Git preferred) with good understanding of branching and merging strategies
  • Awareness of DevOps functions and appetite to contribute to CI/CD pipelines
  • Genuine enthusiasm for coaching and mentoring engineers
